Empowerment and "Redemption Songs"

Solomon (1976) defined empowerment as “a process whereby the social worker engages in a set of activities with the client or client system that aim to reduce the powerlessness that has been created by negative valuations based on membership in a stigmatized group”

This is a quote from my notes from class.  Empowerment is a pretty important issue as a single mom.  Empowerment, or lack therof, is a huge reason I am no longer married.  

Empowerment doesn't mean that you use power over or against someone.  It just means that you no longer allow others to impose their power over you or against you.  It allows you to place value upon yourself, and/or replace value that others have taken away from you.  

May you find newfound empowerment in your life.  It's good for your emotional and mental health.
